In 2014, Kevin O’Malley was nominated to serve as United States Ambassador to Ireland: he served in that position until 2017. Widely respected and admired in Ireland, Ambassador O’Malley has left an enduring legacy of public service in both the United States and Ireland. In his presentation, he will reveal details about his own background in St. Louis as well as describe and trace his many experiences and encounters with dignitaries and with ordinary Irish people while serving as Ambassador of the United States of America to Ireland.

Ambassador O’Malley is a second generation Irish American with Irish ancestry on both sides of his family, and his paternal grandparents came from Westport, Co. Mayo. He attended St. Louis University where he received an A.B. degree in 1970 and the JD degree in 1973. After graduating, Kevin O’Malley was a Special Attorney of the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section of the United States Department of Justice, and he also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in St. Louis. Throughout his distinguished legal and public career, Ambassador O’Malley has represented his state and country in many capacities and has taught Law at both St. Louis University and Washington University.
